“Oh that's a shame, there was this great concert and I didn't know about it”. With the “Mille” network, excuses like that are a thing of the past! Behind these platforms are citizen-based cultural initiatives: Quatremille (Liège), Cinqmille (Namur), Sixmille (Charleroi) and Septmille (Mons). So many zip codes where culture is bubbling!
Four multimedia sites dedicated to the arts and local culture, with shared values and a furious desire to shine the spotlight on artists and venues throughout Wallonia. The idea behind it all is to get you out and about, exploring and discovering everything that's going on. There's so much to do and experience!

Your mission,
if you accept it…

Behind the Mille are volunteers involved in cultural organizations, supported by the Comptoir des Ressources Créatives and the Walloon Region.

  • The Mille : “We have to work with limited resources, but we still want to cover every conceivable activity. Because if we have to limit ourselves, our network is useless.”.
  • Us : “It's the kind of impossible mission we love, especially as your concept is pretty brilliant, as citizens, we're 100% on board.”.
  • The Mille : “It is very important that the sites show this local aspect: whether the visitor is in Charleroi, Mons, Namur or Liège and the surrounding area, they must be able to easily find an event thanks to the map integrated into the site for their region.”

Toi aussi, deviens contributeur des Mille !

The great thing about Les Mille is that anyone (in the positive sense of the word) can sign up as a contributor to add events or create articles. It's all possible: be a regular contributor or an organizer announcing an event - all you have to do is register!

As each Mille has its own website, network members can distribute cultural content targeted at Liège, Mons, Namur and Charleroi. User-generated content enables the distribution of all types of content, from chronicles to diaries. Events and articles are created from a single back office.

The icing on the cake is that events are geolocated and accessible via an interactive map, and of course, can be easily consulted on your cell phone.

The Mille sites enabled us to explore many of the facilities offered by Drupal. With a smooth migration from old to new sites, and Domain Access that allows content to be distributed across 4 sites from a single instance.

The key features we have implemented are :

Product catalog

Faceted filters and specific back-office data export functions, Call to action for online ordering

Agenda

Full calendar of events filtered by categories (taxonomies)

Interactive map

Display of all events on a map that geolocates the user and suggests events around them in real time.

Paragraphs

Flexible, modular content management (Paragraphs)

Real-time CDN

(Fastly Edge Cloud Platform) for cache and experience optimization

Drupal Migrate et Domain Access,
for maximum fluidity

Can you imagine having to copy everything from the old site to the new one? Complicated when there are thousands of pages. Fortunately, Drupal Migrate lets you transfer content from the old site to the new platform. While continuing to manage them centrally for distribution to the various regional sites. The result? A smoother transition, with selective migration of content from legacy platforms developed in Wordpress!

The second challenge is role management, given that the sites are fed by a large number of contributors. Here again, it's easy with Drupal, which manages the different roles and allows internal and external editors to edit their columns or announce their events, leaving them the choice of distributing the information on the site of the region concerned, thanks to Domain Access.
