The project

The French Community is an institution representing the interests of French-speaking people living in Wallonia and in Brussels.

Its competences are many and varied and range from Education, Culture, Sport, Youth Aid to Scientific Research and Houses of Justice. To help it carry out its missions, it has a Parliament, a Government and various public services: a ministry, the ONE, the RTBF, etc.

The challenge

The complete revamp of the Intranet

ETNIC, the IT partner of the French Community, gave us the mandate to completely revamp the Intranet for the institution's 6,000 ministry employees.

During an initial workshop, we analysed together the mock-ups and the graphic charter that had previously been produced. The intranet serves as a portal from which the Ministry's employees should be able to access a whole range of essential information such as the latest news from their department, events, a personal space, a HR space and a page dedicated to well-being and other benefits.

The interface of this platform is fully customisable by the user. The user can organize the various information blocks as he or she sees fit and thus create his or her own homepage. In addition, different user groups can manage different sections of the intranet.

The solution

A platform and a course

Our work was mainly centred on the integration of the elements included in the templates, but real development work (including the search functionality with Solr) was also conducted in collaboration with the Etnic team to produce the functional platform that is online. The feedback from users was immediately very positive.

In addition, we took charge of the training of the staff responsible for the administration and content edition of the Intranet.

The training consisted of several stages: the first part covered the basic principles of the Drupal CMS and the essential functionalities related to this project, and the second part consisted of exercises inviting the users to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired during the first session.
