The project
The Erasmus Hospital is the academic hospital of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). It has been open since 1977 and has a capacity of 858 beds. It fulfils three functions in the service of the community: patient care, teaching, and research.
As its name suggests, it is located on the Erasmus university campus, which includes several faculties and brings together no fewer than 5,200 students. With a staff of around 3,000 people, the hospital receives 30,000 patients each year and provides no less than 350,000 consultations.
From the public interface to the intranet
We developed both an intranet site and an Internet site for the Erasmus Hospital. The latter gives access to the various services and the pathologies which are treated, and has a structure which allows users to understand the content provided in an optimal manner.
The main challenge was to migrate an existing site and a large amount of content to Drupal 7, and then synchronise it with the software used internally, including calendar management and appointment scheduling. Moreover, we had to carry out this migration in a short time frame, which meant that we had to quickly get used to the complex workings of such a hospital.
- information pages;
- interactive pages;
- forms;
- data from external sources.
A platform for staff, medical personnel, and patients
In addition to a simplified classification of services, the site also provides practical data on doctors: consultation days, contact details, and availability. Finally, we set up a service on the site which provides various kinds of news, as well as a space dedicated to the press.
